I have a gateway broken FPD1975W LCD Monitor, can it be fixed?

half the screen works, but the top half is brighter then the rest and loads really slow. If I run the mouse across it, it gets imprinted into it and takes about ten seconds to fade. Could this just be a virus or is it the screen? If it is the screen can it be fixed?
